St. Louis - The Science Center

Here is a perfect Sunday activity in St. Louis - visiting the Science Center.  Yes, it is a kid's destination, but it's kind of cool for us adults too.  Best of all, IT'S FREE!  You'll see that FREE is a common theme in my ventures about town.

There are all sorts of cool science stuff to be found - a life sized ananitromic (HOW do you spell that?) dinosaur, building blocks, scratch-n-sniff boards.  Most everything is hands on so you know the kids love every inch of the place and it's huge.  If you have no tolerance for other people's children then you'll want to avoid this place like the plague.  There are kids running wild and worn out parents panting in their wake to keep up.

The part that always captivated my kids, including my very teenaged size, too cool for anything, youth group, was the walkway between the Science Center on the south side of Hwy 64 and the Planetarium on the north side.  Yes, they get to walk over a busy interstate.

There are radar guns to measure speed of the passing cars

And observation windows in the floor!

There's also an Omnimax theater (not free).

This is really a fun destination.  Pair it with a trip to one of the gillion eateries in the area (even the golden arches) and you have the perfect day that your kids will remember forever.  If you do it right they'll pass out in the backseat on the way home.
