I don't have much to post today, just trying to keep another perfect month of posting every day. I did make it to Kohl's, the only plan that came through for the day. Three new blouses and a pair of slacks should be enough to spruce up my wardrobe for a few more months. I was starting to feel like I was wearing the same clothes every week to work.

Friday Fragments - July 30, 2010
Yay! Time for Friday Fragments when we get to share all the pieces of our lives.
*Birthday Month has come to an end. My Birthday Party Blog Hop was a tremendous failure. NOBODY participated. BOO! On the upside, I figured out how to set up a blog hop AND I'm not defeated. There will be more. I have an idea for a regular one, so we'll see.
*Last weekend was the Friend's Trip to the lake. It did not fail to deliver and as always I came home relaxed - the whole goal of a good vacation. There's just something to sitting in the water to erase all of your tension. Or maybe it's laughing your ass off. Whatever, it works. Also, like every year, I came home with a rash. I swear it's a mild form of poison ivy and everyone asks if maybe it's something I pick up in the gross lake water. Well, no, it's always on the back of my upper thighs, sometimes with a distinct line where my swimsuit sits. This year I also had it on my back just above my swim suit. The best I can figure there's a weak amount of poison ivy oils on one of the seats on the boat because it is very much restricted to areas where I sit and shows up almost immediately after a boat ride. Fortunately it doesn't spread and it's not very severe. In the future I hope I remember to sit on a towel.
*With work and the lake weekend I haven't yet visited the kids in their new house. I'm hoping to make a trip out there this weekend. I'm very excited to see how they've transformed the house from Granny's into their own (my two oldest and their significant others have moved into my former MIL's house). This is a very solid move into adulthood and I'm sure they'll make it a successful living arrangement.
*My grandma is also moving - into the memory care unit. Grandma's dementia is getting progressively worse. My mom has been losing a lot of sleep worrying about her mother so hopefully this will help. Now we have to worry how she will accept living a roommate. All bets are on "not at all". She is a very paranoid little woman convinced everyone is out to steal her stuff - and that was before the dementia kicked in. She has chased nurses out of her room with her cane and does everything she can to lock her door almost to the point of being a fire hazard. Getting a roommate is going to be interesting.
*For my birthday the coworkers went all out and completely blocked my desk. It took nearly a half hour to clear away the crap just so I could sit down! I'm slowly moving the rest of it away. They also took me out to Qdoba for lunch - YUM. Then hubby and my mom took me out for dinner - another YUM. It was a very nice day - YAY!
*I can't believe school is starting in just a few weeks! We have doctor appointments and shopping to get in next week. But first I think I'm going to take care of a little ME shopping. I cannot express how much I adore Kohl's with their coupon weekends and Kohl's Cash. Add that to a giftcard from my mom - WOO HOO!

Sunday In My City - July 25, 2010
Welcome to Sunday in my city.... 30 years ago. Just months earlier we had moved from Oregon to St. Louis. I quickly became best friends with my next door neighbor, Piranha, and the girl who lived two streets away, Booty. I can't even begin to express how much I love and adore these two women. We've been together through it all and this is where it all started, the summer of 1980.
For my birthday that summer I had a slumber party. My mom strung up a piƱata and then we retreated to the basement to talk about the things thirteen and fourteen year old girls discuss - make up, boys, music, school, parents and who knows what else. It was a blast.

Star Wars Birthday
In 1977 I turned 11. That August I got to spend a week with my dad and we celebrated my birthday.
The big cool thing that year was STAR WARS. So we went to see the movie and I was absolutely captivated. Since I loved it so much my dad bought me the two record sound track, which by the way, I still own.
He also took me to KMart to pick out a parakeet (yes, children, Kmart used to have a pet section, and a grill, and an actual blue light that moved from lane to lane highlighting in-store specials - oh life back in the day....) I had to pick the most exotic bird possible, the only all yellow one. It was a great pick. Perky was my bud for many years to come. He lived until I graduated high school and I still get a little weepy thinking about losing one of my favorite pets. He sang and danced and even talked. I lived with that bird on my shoulder.

Be creative and have fun. But do not miss out, I want everyone here and having fun. Got it?
*We're headed to the Lake of the Ozarks this afternoon. So far the cooler is packed with beer and vodka and my suitcase has flipflops. That's it. Last night I pulled out my swimsuit, but it's still sitting on my dresser. Looks like I have my priorities for the weekend straight, don't you think? If I have any decent pictures I'll post them next weekend.
*More from the land of "I never" - I NEVER EVER thought I would be a calorie counter. I'm the daughter of a professional dieter and there is a whole set of issues related with that which is worthy of an entire blog to itself. In other words I'm the anti-dieter. Then earlier this week someone pointed out this cool site that's FREE (hello, I'm alllllllll about the free stuff) that tracks your food and activity. I really like this site. I still don't consider myself counting calories basically because this site does all of the work. It also breaks down all of your other nutritional needs. So far my meals have been low in cholesterol (awesome) and one meal was high in calcium (but not overall, so I need to supplement). Because I know I have to chart everything, it's sort of making me accountable and I'm avoiding some bad food choices when my afternoon munchies kick in. But I'm not dieting, do you hear me?
Okay, I'm keeping this short so I can get ready for this weekend. Y'all be good while I'm away. Keep it cool during this heatwave - my butt will be bobbing in the lake trying not to scorch my delicate skin. Check out everyone else's Friday Fragments:

Cupcakes At School
Being a summer birthday person I never got to celebrate my birthday at school. Clearly we hadn't heard of "half birthdays" where you get to celebrate at the six month mark (mine would be January 28th, by the way). One by one my classmates were paraded in front of the class with the obligatory song and applause. Many of the kids also brought in cupcakes and treats. They were the star of the day even if they were chased around the playground for a birthday spanking. The biggest drama was the party invite as some kids were sometimes excluded. At the end of the year the three kids with summer birthdays were brought up front and had a pity song tossed their way. woo.
Bitter, party of one.
So guess whose kid was never sent off to school with birthday cupcakes? Especially since one of my children was also a summer birthday? It just wouldn't be fair. Fortunately no one was an oddball since that was also the time that schools freaked out over home-baked food coming into classrooms. Yeah, like I would go to the store and buy cupcakes for a room of kids I don't know? Have you not met me? Oh well, that's not something I would do.
But how cool is this when the daycare made it a special day with a groovy hat and made at school cupcakes? And how awesome that they took pictures and sent copies home??? There is absolutely nothing like a great day care.

Yes, little procrastinator me has finally plotted out the pictures for my bloghop, including the final days leading up to the bloghop.
So today highlights my birthday four years ago. My lovely friends took me out to eat and then to a bar in Soulard, a great area just south of downtown St. Louis. Most of the pictures in my stash are SO uncomplimentary with barely open eyes... we *might* have been drunk.
And after a night of drinking I tend to get chatty, even with strangers. These poor guys are clearly humoring me.

Heatwave Birthday Party
My older son has a birthday in mid June. While it's still technically "spring", it usually feels like summer. And like a dummy, I thought taking his little friends to a local park to celebrate his birthday would be a good idea. Unfortunately it was miserable hot that day. The kids didn't want to venture out of the shade to the playground or to run around like wild heathens like they normally would do. No, they stayed close to the table with dripping ice cream and sweating soda pop.
It was probably the quickest birthday celebration ever.
I never did another outdoors birthday after that.

SUMMER!!!!!
How about some fruit salad???
Total happiness
So it's been miserable hot, right? That means at some point God is going to go bowling and we get thunder (ever hear that one? It sure does sound like we're under a bowling alley when a good storm starts to brew). Sure enough we're under a thunderstorm warning and that always brings the possibility of tornadic activity. And what does one do under such conditions???
GO OUTSIDE!!!!
No tornadoes yet, but I'm pretty sure Illinois is going to get hammered some time today.
