We landed some awesome coupons so we've made a few trips over the last several weeks to Baskin Robbins...
And one day driving past an American Legion we saw these guys pulling into the lot

Sunday In My City - Chasing Balloons
Our goal last night was to repay a coworker.
She left THESE on the back of my car
So I returned them
Along the way we spotted these in the sky
So we chased down the one that landed
Afterwards we stopped at Culver's for frozen custard

Sunday In My City - May 1, 2011
Welcome to St. Louis, Missouri! There are lots of great things to see and do when you visit here, but one place that is high on my list to recommend is Crown Candy Kitchen. It's an old soda shop from 1917! They have fabulous sandwiches, but everyone goes there for the ice cream. They also make their own chocolates and candies.

Saturday Survey - Milk Shakes
Treated my son to milk shakes after yard work this morning. We went someplace special that I'll highlight in tomorrow's post. Hubby got strawberry, I got chocolate and Ian got vanilla. Another local place, Steak N Shake, offers side by side flavors and my fav there is banana and chocolate.
By the way (and this totally is not a paid endorsement) Jack In The Box has some pretty kickass shakes. Many people have never tried their shakes, so if you have a store near you, check it out. Totally worth the trip.
So do you have a favorite milk shake flavor? Do you make milk shakes at home? What is your specialty there? (We make a lot of banana milk shakes at home)
And finally, do you have a local spot that offers fabulous milk shakes?

Going Out For Ice Cream
I'm six days into BIRTHDAY MONTH where I am bound and determined to diligently post about celebrations and things that make me happy, but oh holy shit this is becoming a chore. A list o'grievances is starting to build and my ranty self needs to spout off. It is possible The Husband has learned when this tirade starts to build for he suggested the most wonderful of trips.
ICE CREAM
Oh how I love me some ice cream. I don't care what time of year it is or even what time of day, ice cream soothes thisbitch beast. (heh, I actually think "bitch beast" might be most appropriate)
Anyway we were out running another errand and were smack dab between two different Dairy Queens - this one or that one, hurry up and decide the light is about to change. Go to THAT one. As I headed in THAT direction he reminded me there is third location, a smaller one that we always forget right here in the neighborhood, one we have never visited. It's a tiny, old building with no drive-thru. So we park the car and walk up to the window (no inside service either). This is OLD SCHOOL.
And I order what I always get, a peanut buster parfait and The Husband gets his favorite, a banana split. We are creatures of habit.
This is a typical summer evening, going out for ice cream. And damn this makes me happy. The List O'Grievances still exists, but maybe it can wait until Bitch And Moan August? Because what else is there to do in August BUT bitch and moan?
In the meantime...
I scream
You scream
We all scream
For ICE CREAM!

Friday Fragments - Mar 19, 2010
HUH! I was going to post this as "Bits as Pieces" earlier this week, but I never finished my thought. How convenient, I'll use it for Friday Fragments! Go on over to Mrs. 4444's to find everyone else's fragments.
*Week THREE of a new business - we're getting closer to opening the doors, but still not ready. The shop is an awful mess and none of the utilities are turned on yet, still waiting for city inspectors and approval forms and blow jobs or whatever it is that's necessary. I will not be performing any necessary tasks in this realm other than mopping, so the utilities may be off for a while. I patched together the single most crappiest web page in the history of the internets so I guess I'll be mopping up that mess over the next week. Like I said, I'll be mopping. Painting and other grunt work is being done by my son and his friend and they seem to be doing a damn fine job.
*I drove from work with a spider scampering across my visor - AND I DID NOT DIE! And I did not crash the car! I'll have to dig through my archives to see if I ever told the story of the monsterous wolf spider at Girl Scout Camp. Maybe I'll just retell it and if you've already read it you can catch the discrepancies between the two. UPDATE!!! I found the link! http://dementiawoman.blogspot.com/2006/04/one-time-at-girl-scout-camp.html
*My child STILL has not brought me my special tub o' ice cream. I have no clue how he became so forgetful, but this is causing me to... to... get all flustered and forget shit. Yeah. It's all his fault. Bring mommy ice cream and keep her happy. Twenty years on this planet, TEN MONTHS residing in my uterus, and he hasn't gotten these basic facts straight....
*UPDATE - Wednesday I got my ice cream and it was delightfully yummy. He is no longer disowned.
*Work is effing insane. Seriously. I have lots of whiny things to post but somebody might be reading so I'll behave. Basically I don't have time to be sick right now, but I am in dire need of a mental health day. I've been carrying around a gift certificate for the last six months for a massage. I think it's time to redeem it.

Friday Fragments - Mar 12, 2010
Time to post the bits and pieces that don't make enough for a full blog (yeah, right I could ramble on for any of these). But click the above button and see everyone else fragmenting.
*I overslept this morning.
*My son begins Spring Break today. What the hell is up with giving them the Friday BEFORE the week off? Back when I was in school there was no such thing. Spoiled brat. So yeah, I'm dragging his ass to work so he can hang out with his bud and birthday twin, the son of my coworker. Fortunately at 12 & 13 they keep themselves very busy and far away from us wetblanket moms.
*I AM ICE CREAM DEPRIVED! My older son, the child I will highlight in tomorrow's post, is going to be disowned for FORGETTING to bring me my special Samoa mix they did at his shop earlier this week. I may wither away. If I don't post in a few days you'll know that I died of lack of ice cream.
*There is a serious itch to pull out my sewing machine (buried in the bowels of my basement) and start sewing again. I made the mistake of following quilting blogs and these bitches are inspiring. Dammit.
*Come back tomorrow, it's really important - we need to have a serious chat about a heath issue.

Friday Fragments - Feb 5, 2010
Click the link above to find all of the other fun people recounting the bits and pieces of their week.
I, however, slacked and didn't record any bits and pieces for the week so I'm stranded, leaving you with an incoherent babbling mess.
Clearly I did not dance eloquently enough for the snow dance and am being punished with rain instead. For those of you receiving fourteen feet of white fluffy stuff, do not bitch and whine. Just know you received MY snow and I would gladly take it off your hands. Feel free to pack it up and send it my way. Before you do, take lots of pictures. Repackaged snow just never looks the same. I am tremendously amused by the concept of a "snow drunk" presented by Bye Bye Pie. One of these days we will receive enough snow to construct a snow thing of some form... *sigh*
This is the second week my son got to play goalie at his hockey practice. The poor child is just the gangliest thing ever. At least this week he didn't look like a scarecrow assuming the police-pat-down position every time the puck came his direction. He tucked it in this time and even managed to block a few pucks. No he isn't going to be our back up goalie (Dear God PLEASE no, for the team's sake), but the regular kid has been suffering a lingering cold and it's a good chance for the other players to appreciate what it's like to have to stand still with pucks and huge kids running straight for you, with a mask muffling your hearing.
As the technology goddess at work and the only person who has any idea how to do our former office manager's job (as in sat in her chair once and was known for speaking directly to her on several occasions) I was given the lovely task to figure out our phone system, in particular, how to reset the automated greetings. Yes, that is plural. In all, I had three different messages that had to be changed. So until we get a new person to fill that position, *I* will be the voice greeting all incoming calls. It would be kind of cool except my phone messages have a Darth Vader/mouth breather essence to them. Hopefully they will be replaced in the very near future. On the upside, I muddled through the asinine directions from the manual and condensed them down to one page with copies given to multiple people so if I fall off the face of the planet somebody else can change the message without staring a stupid book for two hours. I detest directions written by programmers.
OH HOLY CRAP! I just saw this on TV - tomorrow is NATIONAL EAT ICE CREAM FOR BREAKFAST DAY! Please stock up accordingly and celebrate properly.
