Friday Fragments - April 8, 2011

It's a very fragmented day, indeed.  This and next week are crazy busy at work with lots of evening hours put in.  To complicate matters my mind really isn't in it.

Long time friend David passed away last weekend.  His memorial service is tomorrow.

Also tugging at my heart is my messageboard friend who has been in and out of hospice for the past several months is in horrible pain and is ready to go.

I wish I had more bright and chipper things to say.  Please pause to tell those who mean something to you how much you care

A Friend Passed Away

David passed away this morning as his family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support.  On Friday he was found at the bottom of his stairs.  They're unsure if he had an anneurism before or after he fell.

He leaves behind three beautiful daughters, several grandchildren, and many many friends who will all miss him dearly.

David was one of the best guys you could ever know.  He was kind and soft spoken, but always ready to gather with friends and have a good laugh.  I cannot recall him ever saying a hurtful word.

Clearly, only the good die young.

Dave, I wish we kept in touch these past few years.  Everyone has been asking about you.  We miss you so much and kick ourselves for not getting the chance to see you one more time.  Your girls are so lucky to have you as their guardian angel to shield them as only a father could.  Please pass our way in your heavenly travels and stop in for a drink.

Friday Fragments - August 6, 2010

*C.R.A.Z.Y. freaking week.  None of my plans have panned out.  Sometimes when that happens it's a good thing and I've learned to just roll with it.  But there are other times when it's just weird.  This week it's been weird.  The miserable heat certainly is part of it.  Wednesday felt exactly like shoving your face into an oven.  Have I sung the praises of the creator of air conditioning???  Love. Him.

*Wednesday, the day my supervisor started his vacation (who is NEVER EVER allowed to leave town ever again because something always goes haywire when he leaves), we nearly had an electrical fire.  I had the fire department come out and they scanned his office for hot spots and couldn't find it, but they agreed something is running VERY hot.  I've spent the last two days rummaging through his office to find the source of the smell that still has not gone away.

*My children are all moved into their house.  I dropped by last night and the poor things have acquired more furniture.  While it's nice that people want to help these new adults furnish their house, the kids are going to have to sprout a backbone and start saying no.  My daughter has already started runs to the Goodwill to drop off unneeded stuff.  I told her I suspect that's going to be the case for a while... probably until her cousins reach their 20's.

*I'm eating a donut right now.  Last night we stopped by the donut shop where I had my very first job.  The job sucked, but the donuts really are the BEST ever.  Probably the absolute worst thing in my attempts to eat right, but YUM.  It's a caramel long john.  They had run out of the apple fritters - damn!

*Grandma was just moved into her new room.  We feared that having a roommate might not be a good mix for her, but the two ladies bonded rather well... right up until the other woman's son showed up and barged in the room without knocking.  Grandma was not going to have any of that, strangers coming in her room, and chased him out wielding her cane.  Yeah, Grandma was basically put on time out and moved to another room and her cane removed.  My mom is appealing to the administrators since an unknown man had just walked into her room.  We'll see.

Today my heart goes out to the families affected by that horrific bus crash in St. James, Missouri.  It's all over the local news as St. James is just down the highway from St. Louis.  Two teens died and it's just a horrible loss.
