New Header

Sorry nothing spectacular to share on this Sunday.  I did manage to scrounge up an appropriate autumn picture for a new header as I'm not really in a beach mood these days. 

My lovely friends reminded me yesterday that a year ago we were in Vegas.  That seems like a lifetime ago.

Surgery Tomorrow

It's funny, I'm almost excited about getting my gall bladder yanked out.  I'm quite calm about it, not nervous at all.  If anything, I'm giddy.  Not about the surgery or losing body parts.  I'm rather attached to the pieces God gave me, but if one must go, so be it.  No, it's the full week off I've scheduled.  I know I'll feel puny, but I am looking at a full week of NOTHING. 

And what do I anticipate doing during this Week Of Nothing?  Well there's going to be TV watching and catching up on crappy chick flicks and maybe read a book and certainly reading plenty of blogs and naps and more naps.  My biggest goal is to trim all of the recipes I've pulled out of magazines over the past several years and glue them to index cards.  Absolutely everything I have running through my head can be performed from the cushy comfort of my couch.  I fear one week may not be long enough!

I may or may not get my Friday Fragments posted tonight and I'm not all that sure about Sunday's In My City.  We'll see how crazy life is tonight.  I have to find a bottle of glue that certain people swear exists in our house.  I may have to drive all of the way to Walgreens and purchase more supplies (tossing flour on my face and looking overly exhausted... pity me)

So I'll catch y'all next week sometime.  Play nice.

Blog Housekeeping

I'm spending the day adding labels to all of my posts and possibly a little rearranging.  Check back tomorrow or maybe later today, I'll try to come up with something insightful to post.  I guess this makes up for yesterdays super long ass post?

100th Post and My Geeked Out Geekness

I'm totally wasting my 100th post (yay me!) on bragging on my geek accomplishments today!

A) I learned how to make a button that links to my parenting blog
B) Placed said button in the title bar (because I want to be like all the cool kids)
3) Found the code to put buttons in a horizontal line up there (will have to make more buttons to prove this one)
iv) Tweeked the html to widen my posts on the screen (this one has been nagging at me for a long time so I'm REALLY happy I figured it out)

THIS is how I've burned my brain cells for the past several hours and I'm really excited but nobody ANYBODY (sorry to my grammatically correct friends) who understands what I'm talking about is nearby so I can't brag on my geekiness. :(

CRAP! The fucking button doesn't work! Dammit! *sigh*

FIXED!  YAY!

And now I've moved the button to the sidebar after all of that brain hammering to get it to work right at the top.  Oh well.  It looks better on the side.   At least I have the code to do it on top if I want to.  (Yeah, a geek needs "code" to "do it" on top)

Crap.  It IS "nobody".  I really need to stop re-reading this post.  Or maybe I can just turn it into the most edited post in all of blogdom.  Come back tomorrow and see what else I've done to it.  You know, I'm going to wake up at 4am and worry if I got the anybody/nobody issue right.  At this point it does.not.fucking.matter.  But I have to get it right.  Once I posted a response to someone saying "sherpa" along the lines of feeling like a pack mule.  And then I woke up the next morning seriously worried that I made a wrong analogy so at 4 am I crawled out of bed, pulled up the computer, searched Wikipedia for "sherpa" all prepared to eat crow and laugh at my stupidity yet again.  But no, I was right.  And wide awake.  And this is why I should not use big words.

But seriously, do you see how the posts are wider on the screen?  Isn't that totally awesome?  I did that without searching for tips and tricks, without copying someone else's code.  Did it all with my own brain matter.  But I really need to avoid big words because that is what trips me up.  Not programmer code which I don't know squat about, words like sherpa.

New Wallpaper

I'm playing with new backgrounds on my blog pages. Please bear with me as I tinker with swatches of this and that. The current one doesn't pan out quite so well as the eye draws to blobs of seaweed, not the soothing lapping of waves. YUCK. I'm keeping it for a while as I scroll through other options.

After several hours of staring at scrapbook pages I've decided I want something more personal and maybe I can create my own. I've fiddled with a personal picture and the html code and actually got a first run to post! It totally looked like crap, but the evil scientist/computer programmer is starting to take over and I will be spending more than a few hours playing with Photoshop and lines of code.

A little housecleaning

The yellow ginko tree, as of today, is still holding its leaves. And as I type this it is surely dropping them. No, really, I will be surprised if tomorrow the leaves aren't splattered on the ground. I keep detouring and snapping pictures. Stubborn tree.


The tomatoes have finally ripened. This past weekend most of them were chopped up and made into salsa, much to the delight of my kids. A little bowl went home with my daughter on Sunday night. There are four more tomatoes finally ripened in the window sill and I guess I will make another batch tomorrow.
