Sunday In My City - January 9, 2011

A few months ago I went to lunch with a few coworkers at a local park.  It was a brilliant fall day and gratefully I was carrying a camera to capture it.

We like to pick on each other as to has the most severe case of OCD.  Usually it's me eating my M&M's by color, but this time it was someone else dismantling acorns while we talked and then lining them up in a nice little row.  A little Squirrel Buffet if you will.

We were only gone barely over a half hour and in that time the sky changed from a crisp blue to a windy, cloudy, blustery grey. 

Such is a day in St. Louis, Missouri.

Time To Sweep

The temps are starting to drop that people are frequently commenting how wonderful it feels outside.  AMEN!   While it may feel like fall, it doesn't LOOK like autumn yet.  Over the next few weeks the trees will burst with color, but at the moment only a rogue leaf will peak and drop.  It's coming, we all feel it.

Lawns are still a lush green, not yet hidden by brown leaves.  My sidewalk, on the other hand, completely covered.  I grilled steaks yesterday and had to clear a path through all of the leaves to get to my grill.  Maybe the change in colors is closer than I realize? 

Seventy Degrees in November

It was just a few weeks ago I was belly aching about Missouri weather and then this week we are experiencing absolutely gorgeous, love-to-be outside weather. The temps are in the upper sixties to low eighties - IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

I have resumed my morning walks. The scent of the leaves is magnificent. A local DJ always complains that fall is awful what with the decaying dead leaves, but that is not what they smell like. It's sweet and spicy. No room spray can capture that, I'm sure.

There is a drawback to these warm temps, I guess. With it being early November and so warm it's more than a little difficult to discuss the upcoming holidays. I'm just not in the mood! I'm managing, though. I just starting soaking dried fruit in rum for a fruitcake. It's a first time for making one so we'll see how it turns out over Thanksgiving before I start giving links to recipes.
